Terms of Service for Drive View

Last updated: October 26, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Drive View ("the Software"), an open-source plugin for the Obsidian note-taking application created by Alex Sherman ("the Developer").

By installing, configuring, or using Drive View, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Description of Software

Drive View is an open-source client-side plugin designed to allow users to mount and synchronize a Google Drive folder as a virtual vault within Obsidian. All network requests occur directly between your device and Google APIs. The Software does not operate, route through, or depend on any intermediate third-party servers.

2. User Responsibilities & Google Account

  • Google Account & API Usage: To use Drive View, you connect your own Google account. You are responsible for complying with Google's Terms of Service and acceptable use policies when storing and retrieving data via Google Drive.
  • Account Security: Authentication credentials and tokens are stored locally on your device. You are solely responsible for securing your device and account credentials.

3. Open Source License & Permitted Use

Drive View is licensed under the MIT License. You are free to view, modify, distribute, and run the Software subject to the conditions of the MIT License.

4. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NONINFRINGEMENT.

While Drive View is designed to protect your data with debounced writes and safe conflict resolution, you acknowledge that network interruptions, Google API quotas/errors, or software bugs could lead to sync failures or data loss. You are strongly encouraged to maintain regular backups of your notes and Google Drive files.

5. Limitation of Liability

IN NO EVENT SHALL THE DEVELOPER OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES, OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF, OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.

6. Modifications to the Software and Terms

The Developer reserves the right to modify or discontinue the Software or update these Terms at any time by updating this page or the repository. Continued use of the Software following changes constitutes acceptance of those changes.
